Artist's Comments

This is my submission for the Erik at Work contest by :iconphantom-of-da-opera: . Here, Erik is seen dropping notes down from the flies of the stage during a rehearsal, terrorizing the cast and managers. I thought this best described Erik working, as he took controlling the Opera House with an iron fist extremely seriously. His goal was only to improve the Opera Populaire's performances, but he did it in kind of a scary, intense way. I included the managers, Madame Giry, some ballerinas, Meg, and Christine in the group below. I didn't use any references, so it was really tough, and things might be off. I did this in watercolors, further practice in the medium. I'm rather happy with the piece, though am really angry at my scanner. Perhaps I'll take a page out of Erik's book and Punjab it.

Great job, especially since you didn't use any references!
I really like the colours, too.

You love him! Your fear, your terror, all of that is just love and love of the most exquisite kind, the kind which people do not admit even to themselves," said Raoul

Gaaaa... I really need to learn how to use traditional mediums...
Wonderful! I love Phantom's pose. He looks like a gargoyle or a crouching cat!

Il fit son royaume des ténèbres,
fuyant son image des miroirs,
demeurant sous terre, ignoré de tous.
Pourtant, son âme brille comme un diamant,
et son coeur contient tout l'empire du monde...

What a delight this is! All this inventing, this producing, takes place in a pleasing, lively dream.

The Phantom I believe is the best drawn person out of this picture. He looks perfect to his movie counterpart, Gerard Butler, and his pose is terrific. I especially love the folds in his black cloak. Everyone else looks pretty nicely done, and the angle is very good. I also really like your coloring, what medium did you use? :)

Thank you! Yes, i did spend the most time on teh phantom, i just wish i had a better scanner, there's a lot of detail you can't see. oh well, i'll just have to get over that. i don't have much skill in perspective, im just lazy i guess, so i'm glad you liked it. It was watercolors, actually, though with the scan it looks like colored pencil. perhaps if i ever get a better scanner, ill upload it again.
